New induction process for prospective members

Kevin McGuiness has introduced a practical training course for new members. WLSAR ran the first of these courses in Sept 06. See calendar or members list-serve for 2008 details.

WLSAR Trust obtains funding for gortex jackets and GPS's

The Trust has obtained funding from the Lion Foundation for 20 Swazi Gortex jackets. See emails on the listserve for further details.

Phil Whitelaw retires

After many years of service to SAR in Wellington, Phil Whitelaw retired as an adviser and as Chair of the Advisers committee on 31 October 2005. However, Phil can't escape the clutches of WLSAR that easily - he is now a trustee on the newly formed Wellington Land Search and Rescue Trust.

New Advisers

Congratulations to Caroline, Mike and Wayne. The pagers have been issued and new rosters prepared, much to the relief of Tom, Laurie, Jeff, Matt, Dave and Phil.

The Plan, general info on how to get there, when to arrive and what to bring, as well as safety briefings etc, are located in WLSAR's online library .

Listserves up and running again - 4 October 2004

WLSAR's three listserves (Members, HQ, and Advisers) are live again after being down for a couple of weeks. Some new script has been written to address the cause of the recent outage.

Operation Convair - TAIC report issued on 8 September 2004

On 4 October 2003, WLSAR teams participated in the search for two missing pilots from a Convair 580 cargo plane, which crashed off the Kapiti Coast the previous evening. Search conditions were difficult because of a concurrent weather related civil defence emergency in the search area. On 8 September 2004, the Transport Accident Investigation Commission issued its report on the accident. Click Here for an abstract of the report. Wellington Land SAR's new website is reborn. The idea is to make this YOUR website. We have an easy to use content management system that anyone can handle. Just grab a username and password, and start producing content!
